Australia: an Isolated Jewel

If you ask me about Australia, I could tell you a story, my story: how to fall in love with the country more than once, giving you reasons to stay or come visit. And I don't think you would need much to be convinced - you would either think carefully and just decide to go. According to the better life index, the OECD is showing that Australia is the Happiest Nation in the world and many factors are contributing to this title, it is not always 'Another day in Paradise'.

7 months later and reality is hitting me: it is an island (really) far from everything. Living standards are higher and expenses are quite high. For someone who likes to go abroad like me, it is also setting a barrier I tend to forget about: geography. With technology, I can talk with people around the world but if I want to cross borders it is more difficult being here. Having done the highlights of Australia during my first stay, I would like to take the opportunity to go around Australia to see as much as possible but well.. Wait and see. 

Si vous me branchez sur l’Australie, je pourrais vous raconter une histoire, mon histoire: comment ce pays peut vous séduire et vous émerveiller, vous donnant multiples raisons de venir le visiter ou d’y rester... Et je ne pense pas que vous auriez besoin de plus pour être convaincu - après mure réflexion ou simple coup de tête : c’est si tentant ! L’indice de qualité de vie de l’OCDE décrit l’Australie comme le pays le plus heureux du monde et si plusieurs facteurs justifient ce classement, ce n’est pas toujours « un autre jour au paradis ».

7 mois plus tard, la réalité m’a rattrapé : je suis sur une île (vraiment) loin de tout. Les conditions de vie sont meilleures mais la vie est également plus chère. Pour quelqu’un qui aime voyager comme moi, une barrière revient (et j’ai tendance à l’oublier parfois) et c’est tout simplement l’isolement géographique. Avec les nouvelles technologies, je peux parler avec mes amis partout dans le monde mais si je veux passer la frontière, c’est plus compliqué. Ayant déjà voyagé à travers l’Australie durant mon premier séjour j’aimerais profiter de l’occasion pour découvrir ce qu’il y a autour, mais les distances sont un obstacle et pour l’instant on attend et on verra !
